SoHo 54 Overview

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to SoHo 54 on Watts Street, I almost missed it. The entrance is sort of understated in that deliberate SoHo way, tucked between the kind of cast-iron buildings that make this neighborhood so ridiculously photogenic. But once you’re inside this three-star spot, you realize that’s exactly the point.

The thing about staying in New York is that location trumps almost everything else, and this place gets it. You’re literally in the heart of SoHo – I mean, you can roll out of bed and stumble to some of the best coffee in the city within two blocks. Dean & DeLuca is right there if you’re feeling fancy, or there’s this little bodega around the corner on Spring Street where the guy behind the counter actually remembers your order after a couple days. The rooms themselves are compact (this is Manhattan, what did you expect?), but they’re clean and surprisingly quiet considering you’re surrounded by cobblestone streets that somehow amplify every taxi and delivery truck. Actually, I was worried about noise when I booked, but the windows do a decent job of muffling the street sounds – though you’ll still hear the occasional late-night reveler stumbling home from the bars in Little Italy.

What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood. The front desk guy – I think his name was Marcus – didn’t just hand me a generic tourist map. He marked up this little street guide with spots that locals actually go to, including this tiny gallery on Broome Street that I never would have found otherwise. The check-in was smooth, no weird hidden fees or attitude, which honestly feels rare these days. The rooms have this minimalist thing going on that works well – nothing too fancy, but everything you need including surprisingly good water pressure in the shower. I stayed on the fourth floor and could see slivers of the Hudson River if I craned my neck just right from the window. The whole vibe feels more like a well-run boutique spot than your typical chain hotel, even though it’s not trying too hard to be quirky or Instagram-perfect. You know what I mean? Sometimes these SoHo places get so caught up in being cool that they forget about basic comfort, but this one strikes a good balance. If you’re planning to spend most of your time exploring the city anyway – and in this location, why wouldn’t you – it’s exactly what you need without breaking the bank.

To book hotel in New York during the iconic Times Square New Year’s Eve celebration, visitors should make reservations well in advance as this global metropolis attracts millions of tourists from around the world.

  • Very Good – Sipe94 from Finland – August 31, 2025 (8/10)

Very good location. Canal and spring street subway stations are 2min walking distance away. Staff was nice and helpful and there was free water bottles in a reception which was nice gesture. Traditional american hotelroom ,great bed and great air conditioning.

What could be improved: For some reason hotel WiFi does not work very well. Could be my phones fault also but there was problem to find ip-address and keeping it connected.

  • Great location place! – Maria from Spain – August 18, 2025 (8/10)

Great location, everything was very clean and the staff were really nice. The luggage service for the checkout day is also really convenient. Free water service is great as well! Overall great value for money!

What could be improved: There are only 2 elevators which are really slow, and one of them was not working, so wait time could get long.

  • Very Good – Walker from United States – August 14, 2025 (8/10)

Great views and plenty of water bottles at front desk to stay hydrated. Also, it was nice to be able to check bags at the front desk given the late departure from the city.

What could be improved: The key to our door did not work properly. Had to try several times before it would unlock.

  • Safe location with lots of cafes nearby – Roman from Canada – August 12, 2025 (8/10)

Location was good – very safe with lots of nice restaurants and cafe nearby. Two subway stations not very far.
Staff was friendly – they checked me in early without any issues.
Room service was fine as well – they cleaned the room every day even when I left the room later in the day.

What could be improved: My room was opposite a business center, so I had to keep my blinds shut when changing or lightly dressed.
The traffic might be a little bit busy even during a night hours, but hey, that’s Manhattan.
