Overview

I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Hotel Richland LES on Allen Street, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The Lower East Side has this interesting mix of old-school grit and new-money polish, and this three-star spot sits right in that sweet spot between the two. You’re technically in Chinatown here, which means you’re about a three-minute walk from some of the best dumplings in New York (seriously, hit up Nom Wah Tea Parlor – it’s been there since 1920).

The thing about this place is that it actually gets the neighborhood right, you know? The rooms are clean and modern without trying too hard to be boutique-y, and honestly, that’s exactly what you want when you’re planning to spend most of your time exploring rather than lounging around the hotel. I mean, you’ve got the Tenement Museum practically around the corner, and you can walk to SoHo in about ten minutes if you’re feeling fancy. The staff seems to understand that most guests are here for the location – they’re helpful with subway directions and restaurant recommendations without being pushy about it. One thing I appreciated was how quiet it stays at night, considering you’re on a pretty busy street. Allen Street can get a bit rowdy on weekends (especially during the summer when everyone’s bar-hopping), but the windows do a decent job of keeping the noise out.

What really sold me on recommending this place is the breakfast situation – they keep it simple but they do it well, and there’s actually decent coffee, which is harder to find than you’d think at this price point. The whole vibe feels like someone put thought into making it comfortable without breaking the bank. You’re not getting marble bathrooms or a rooftop bar, but you’re also not paying Manhattan luxury prices for a bed that’s a twenty-minute subway ride from everything interesting. Plus, parking is actually manageable in this part of the city if you’re driving in (though honestly, why would you?). The front desk folks seem to know their stuff about getting around – they pointed me toward the Essex Street Market, which I probably would have missed otherwise, and that turned into one of my favorite afternoons just wandering around and trying different vendors. It’s the kind of place where you check in, drop your bags, and immediately want to go explore, which is really what a good city hotel should do.

Exploring New York offers visitors an unforgettable journey through America’s most iconic city, from its towering skyscrapers to its diverse neighborhoods and world-renowned connections to global culture and commerce.

Great location and comfortable room

Friendly staff, huge bathroom, comfortable large room, good views!

What could be improved: The bathtub had some mold, the silicon could be re-done. I could hear other guests coming and going.
