Being in NoMad means you’re surrounded by some fantastic coffee shops and those little corner delis that New Yorkers actually go to – I mean, there’s this bodega on the corner where the guy behind the counter remembered my usual order by day three. The building itself has that slightly worn-around-the-edges charm that feels authentically NYC, not like some sanitized hotel chain. I stayed on the fourth floor, and while you can definitely hear the city humming below, it’s not the kind of noise that keeps you awake – more like that constant urban lullaby that somehow becomes comforting after a night or two.

What really sold me on this place was how it felt more like borrowing a friend’s apartment than staying in a hotel. The rooms have actual character – mine had this quirky little alcove that was perfect for spreading out my maps and planning the next day’s adventures. The staff knows the neighborhood inside and out, too. When I asked about getting to Brooklyn, instead of just pointing me to the nearest subway, they walked me through which car to get on for the best connection and warned me about the weekend service changes. Check-in was smooth, though I’d recommend arriving after 3 PM because they seemed pretty slammed when I showed up early with my bags. The Wi-Fi actually works (shocking, I know), and there’s something to be said for having a kitchenette when you want to grab fresh bagels from the place down the street and make proper coffee instead of that hotel room instant stuff. It’s not going to win any design awards, but honestly? After spending days walking around the city, all I wanted was a clean, comfortable place to crash that didn’t feel like every other generic hotel room I’ve stayed in.
