Holiday Inn Express Manhattan Midtown West by IHG Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Holiday Inn Express Manhattan Midtown West by IHG, I wasn’t expecting much from a three-star chain hotel in Hell’s Kitchen. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in the best way possible.
The thing is, this stretch of West 48th Street isn’t the prettiest block in New York, but that’s sort of the point – you’re getting legitimate Manhattan real estate without paying those insane Times Square prices that are literally just a few blocks east. I mean, you can walk to the Theater District in about eight minutes (I timed it), and Port Authority is close enough that you’ll hear the occasional bus, but far enough that it won’t drive you crazy. The neighborhood has this authentic New York grittiness that I actually prefer to the tourist bubble – there’s a fantastic Dominican place right around the corner that locals actually eat at, and a bodega that somehow stays open 24/7.
What really won me over was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about making the stay work. The front desk guy – I think his name was Marcus – knew I was dealing with a delayed flight before I even mentioned it, and had already flagged my late check-in. The rooms are clean and honestly more spacious than you’d expect for this price point in Manhattan. Sure, the decor is classic Holiday Inn Express (think lots of blue and white, nothing too fancy), but the bed was actually comfortable, the shower had decent water pressure, and the air conditioning didn’t sound like a freight train. The free breakfast isn’t going to win any awards, but the coffee is surprisingly good and they keep it stocked until 10 AM, which matters when you’re dealing with jet lag. I appreciated that they had actual plates instead of just paper goods – small detail, but it makes a difference when you’re trying to feel human before tackling the city. The business center is just two computers in the lobby, but the WiFi worked perfectly in my room on the sixth floor, and honestly, that’s what matters these days. Parking is expensive (welcome to Manhattan), but there’s a garage next door if you’re brave enough to drive here.

Reviews of Holiday Inn Express Manhattan Midtown West by IHG
Very Good – Badillo from United States – September 3, 2025 (8/10)
It was a good location for time square and the cruise port.
What could be improved: We got stuck in an elevator for 45 min had to jump or between floors also the parking does not work for trucks or suvs had to go further and pay more. The rooms are extremely small like a closet no couch or chairs.Nice stay but A/C didn’t work the first night – Javier from Costa Rica – September 1, 2025 (7/10)
Very close to Times Square. Prices. The room was very clean
What could be improved: Air conditioning not working on the room we were assigned. We called the front desk and they told us they were going to move us to another room until the following day and that they were going to give us a discount for the situation. We spent the first night of our stay without A/C and it was terrible. We got another room but we didn’t get the discount. Breakfast was very simple.Cumpriu as expetativas. Nada de mal a referir. – Humberto27 from Portugal – August 19, 2025 (8/10)
PA suficiente, dentro do conceito de hotel.
Very Good – Roman from Estonia – July 12, 2025 (8/10)
Excellent location — 10 minutes to the subway, 15 minutes to Times Square. Outstanding staff.
What could be improved: The hotel is undergoing renovations, so don’t be surprised if construction workers are looking through your window in the morning — make sure to close the blinds 🙂 Breakfast is always crowded and there’s a shortage of seating. Overall, everything is great — just describing the situation. The positives far outweigh the negatives, and staying in the heart of Manhattan is truly wonderful.Great location. Safe. Lots of restaurants pubs convenience spots nearby. Close to cruise terminal. – Heather from New Zealand – June 19, 2025 (8/10)
Beds very comfy!
What could be improved: Lifts were very busy!Good – Glenn from United States – May 29, 2025 (7/10)
So close to cruise ship terminal.
What could be improved: I booked a king room and got a 2 queens room. Not what i booked months ago.Good – Yamil from Puerto Rico – May 18, 2025 (7/10)
What could be improved: problems with elevators everyday
Ok for price and quality! – Valentina from Italy – April 26, 2025 (8/10)
The location was about a 10 min walk to Times Square. Rooms were clean.
What could be improved: Breakfast gets super crowded from 7 onwards. Pancake machine was broken the whole time. Shower had a curtain which didn’t hold in the water so the floor gets wet. One of the two elevators broke and was broken from day 2 til we left on day 4. Rooms are small but that’s understandable. The outside of the hotel is not very attractive with work being done on the building and dumpsters nearby.Nice stay, horrible elevators – Wade from United States – April 19, 2025 (7/10)
Great location, friendly staff, nice breakfast
What could be improved: The elevators. One was out of service which made our stay on the 11th floor interminable. When elevators did finally arrive, they were full. Check out time? Ugh. Horrendous.Nice and comfortable – Kemi from United Kingdom – March 20, 2025 (8/10)
