I could hear the occasional siren, but nothing that kept me awake at night.

There’s decent water pressure in the shower (not always a given in older Manhattan buildings), the Wi-Fi actually works throughout the entire hotel, and they’ve got this 24-hour fitness center that’s small but functional if you need to burn off all that pizza and bagel consumption. The breakfast situation is continental style – nothing fancy, but the coffee’s strong and there are fresh pastries that’ll get you going before you hit the streets. Speaking of streets, you’re within walking distance of the Empire State Building, Penn Station, and basically every subway line you could need. I found myself using the hotel as a perfect home base for exploring different neighborhoods without feeling like I was stuck way uptown or buried in some remote corner of Brooklyn. It’s one of those places where the value really shows – you’re getting a clean, comfortable stay with genuine New York character without paying those ridiculous Times Square hotel rates that make your credit card weep.
