Overview

I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Blue style Room tucked away on West 139th Street in Harlem, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The name doesn’t exactly scream luxury, you know? But honestly, this three-star spot surprised me in the best possible way. It’s one of those places where you realize that sometimes the most authentic experiences happen when you venture beyond the tourist bubble.

The location is actually perfect if you want to experience the real New York. You’re right in the heart of Harlem, which means you’re surrounded by incredible soul food joints, historic brownstones, and that unmistakable neighborhood energy that makes this city special. I mean, you can walk to the Apollo Theater in about ten minutes, and there’s this amazing little coffee shop just two blocks down that locals have been going to for decades – the kind of place where the barista remembers your order after the second visit. The subway access is solid too, though I’d recommend getting familiar with the area during daylight hours first if you’re not used to navigating the city.

What really impressed me about this place was how they’ve managed to create something genuinely stylish without trying too hard. The rooms have this clean, minimalist vibe that actually feels refreshing after walking through the bustling streets outside. The beds are surprisingly comfortable – I’m talking actually get-a-good-night’s-sleep comfortable, not just hotel-marketing comfortable. And you know what? The soundproofing is better than you’d expect for a place at this price point, which matters when you’re on a street that can get lively on weekend nights. The staff genuinely seems to care about making sure you’re settled in well, and they’re full of recommendations that go way beyond the typical tourist traps. During my stay, the front desk guy told me about this incredible jazz spot just a few subway stops away that I never would have found otherwise. Sure, it’s not going to have all the bells and whistles of those massive Midtown hotels, but that’s sort of the point – you’re getting an authentic slice of New York life without paying those ridiculous Manhattan prices. If you’re the type of traveler who’d rather explore real neighborhoods and discover hidden gems instead of staying in some sterile hotel corridor, this place makes a lot of sense.

Wonderful

We were pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome – the host had even left us some face masks as a thoughtful touch! In the kitchen, there were always snacks available, along with tea, coffee, and even oatmeal that we could prepare ourselves. The location is quite convenient, with easy access to everything via the nearby subway.

The bathroom was fully stocked with everything needed for personal care – shower, shower gel, shampoo, creams, and even perfumes. In the room, we found cozy bathrobes, as well as an iron and a hairdryer, which was very convenient.

Check-in was super easy. The apartment was clean, cozy, and beautifully decorated. We truly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it to others!

Wonderful

The room is big and cosy, the owner is extremely nice and helpful, he also left us food in the kitchen for breakfast, which was great. A coffee machine is also available. The bathroom has shampoos and everything. A lot of nice touches in the house to make people feel welcome, we really appreciated it. The neighborhood is lively and super convenient, the subway brings directly to times square in a few stops. Overall I recommend it and we would choose it again.

What could be improved: A shared bathroom will always be an inconvenience obviously. It's shared between three rooms so if the house is full you may need to cue. I do not recommend the area for solo travellers. The neighborhood is amazing but there are not enough lights at night, can feel a bit dangerous.

Lovely place to stay

I highly recommend this place! It’s very clean, cozy, and quiet. Both the kitchen and bathroom are fully stocked with all the essentials, and there were even some snacks in the kitchen — such a thoughtful touch!
