Fairfield Inn & Suites New York Manhattan/Downtown East Overview

I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to the Fairfield Inn & Suites New York Manhattan/Downtown East on Henry Street, I wasn’t expecting much from this three-star place tucked into Chinatown. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in unassuming packages.

The location is actually pretty brilliant if you think about it. You’re right in the thick of Chinatown’s energy – I mean, step outside and you’re immediately hit with the smell of fresh dumplings and the chatter from the markets along Mott Street. It’s maybe a five-minute walk to some of the best xiaolongbao in New York, and honestly, that alone made my stay worth it. The hotel sits on this quieter residential stretch though, so you get the neighborhood vibe without the constant honking that’ll keep you up all night. I was worried about noise levels initially, but the rooms are surprisingly well-insulated – I could barely hear the street below even with the windows facing Henry Street.

What really impressed me was how the staff seemed to actually care about getting things right. Check-in was smooth, no weird holdups or attitude, and the front desk guy gave me solid recommendations for late-night eats nearby (definitely hit up Joe’s Shanghai, but go after 9 PM when the tourist crowds thin out). The rooms themselves are clean and functional – nothing fancy, but the beds are comfortable and the WiFi actually works, which, let’s face it, is sometimes a gamble in Manhattan hotels. The bathroom’s compact but efficient, good water pressure, and they keep it stocked with decent toiletries. I appreciated the little touches too, like having a proper workspace with enough outlets – seems basic but you’d be surprised how many places still haven’t figured that out.

Here’s what sold me on this place: you’re walking distance to the Brooklyn Bridge, the South Street Seaport, and you can hop on the subway at East Broadway or Grand Street stations without dealing with the Times Square chaos. Plus, if you’re into that whole authentic New York experience, watching the neighborhood come alive in the morning – vendors setting up, old-timers doing tai chi in Columbus Park – it’s pretty special. The hotel doesn’t try to be something it’s not, which I respect. It’s clean, comfortable, and puts you right where the real city happens, not in some sterile midtown bubble. For the price point and the genuine neighborhood feel, I’d definitely come back.

Reviews of Fairfield Inn & Suites New York Manhattan/Downtown East

  • Very nice hotel in Downtown Manhattan! – Anna from Italy – August 31, 2025 (9/10)

Very clean property, friendly staff, nice breakfast. 5min walk to the East Broadway subway station that lets you reach any place very quickly.

What could be improved: Housekeeping came at very random times

  • Good accomodation in lower Manhattan for a reasonable price – László from Hungary – August 2, 2025 (9/10)

Cleaning every day. We had a problem with the toilet on Sunday morning and they fixed it in 15 minutes! Well done! Every employee smiles at you, that’s a plus.

What could be improved: Breakfast room is small, always had to wait for seats (we were 3). Breakfast is enough but not A quality food.

  • A great base to explore New York with family – Leila from United Kingdom – July 27, 2025 (8/10)

Hotel is in a great location! It is within walking distance to WTC memorial and a bit further on, Battery Park, to catch ferry to Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island. East Broadway subway is very close too to go uptown.
We were all very impressed with the breakfast and the attentive staff. You can take food out with you or up to your room, which is great as some hotels don’t allow this.

What could be improved: The bed and pillows were a bit soft but it was fine for 3 day stay.

  • It was good but not as nice as other Marriott facilities I have visited. – Sylvia from United States – July 26, 2025 (8/10)

The breakfast was good, just needed to update meat choices such as chicken sausage or turkey bacon.
The hotel staff was very accommodating to any issues I have.

What could be improved: The rooms need to have more comfortable seating beside a desk chair. Also needed to have sound proofing for the noise guests. There was also a plumbing issue when you flush the toilet it makes weird noises

  • Comfortable and Convenient Stay in Chinatown – Afshan from United Arab Emirates – July 25, 2025 (7/10)

We had a comfortable stay at Fairfield by Marriott in Chinatown. The facilities were clean and well-maintained, and the staff was helpful and courteous throughout. The location is quite convenient — about 15 minutes on foot to the Hop On Hop Off bus stop (100 Lafayette St), and roughly 10 minutes to both the Manhattan Bridge and the NYC Ferry terminal, which made getting around the city very easy.

Little Italy is around 12 mins walking distance.

Breakfast was decent with a limited selection, but everything offered was fresh and satisfying. The rooms were quiet and comfortable.

Overall, a solid choice for a centrally located and budget-friendly hotel in Manhattan. Would recommend for families or groups who want easy access to downtown attractions.

What could be improved: Bedsheets and towels felt a bit worn, even though they were clean.

  • A comfortable and pleasant stay in a bustling neighbourhood – Isabelle from United Kingdom – July 22, 2025 (8/10)

The room was clean and comfortable, with adjustible heating/AC, reliable WiFi, a good amount of space and a large TV. The hotel was just seconds away from a bus stop and a three-minute walk from the subway, with easy connections to the rest of Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. The area felt safe. There were nice cafes not far from the hotel. The gym was clean and easy to use, and the staff were very friendly.

What could be improved: The hotel is right next to the Manhattan Bridge, so the sound of subway trains was loud and continuous. However, this isn’t so bad if you’re out all day every day (which I was), and it’s less frequent at night, making it easy to sleep. The breakfast had several options, but the cooked options weren’t very varied.

  • Wonderful – James from United Kingdom – July 18, 2025 (9/10)

Good sized room, reliable WiFi, room as described, not much noise, and all staff were helpful. Clean rooms, also cleaned regularly during stay.

What could be improved: There could have been a few more hot breakfast options, but the rest of the selection was more than enough.

  • Very Good – Kamil from Czech Republic – July 12, 2025 (8/10)

simply the ability to open the window, compared to other hotels during our stay 🙂
Close to the subway and bus….

What could be improved: An insufficient breakfast for a European, but a standard one in the US. Honestly a general problem in US

  • Very Good – Denise from Italy – July 1, 2025 (8/10)

The front desk staff – excellent!!

What could be improved: I liked everything. Breakfast was great, lots if choices. Mattress and pillows very comfortable. Clean towels every day. Couldn’t ask for more!

  • Good – Carlos from Spain – July 1, 2025 (7/10)

    Breakfast better than expected

What could be improved: The rooms are small
