Overview

I’ll be honest – when I first saw the name Gorgeous & Bright 3BDR & 1BTH in Midtown Manhattan, I thought it sounded more like a rental listing than a hotel. But you know what? That’s actually kind of what makes this place work. It’s this unique boutique hotel without official star rating that feels like you’re staying in someone’s really well-appointed apartment rather than a typical hotel room, and honestly, that’s refreshing in a city where most accommodations feel pretty cookie-cutter.

The location on 1st Avenue puts you right in the thick of Midtown East – close enough to walk to Grand Central (maybe 8-10 minutes if you’re not dragging heavy luggage), but far enough from the Times Square chaos that you can actually think straight. I mean, you’re still in New York, so it’s not exactly quiet, but the street noise here is more of that steady urban hum rather than the constant honking and yelling you get closer to the tourist traps. The three-bedroom setup is actually pretty genius if you’re traveling with family or a group of friends – everyone gets some space, but you’ve got that central living area where you can hang out and plan your day. The one bathroom situation might seem like a potential issue, but it’s honestly fine unless you’re traveling with a bunch of people who all need to get ready at exactly the same time.

What struck me most was how the place manages to feel both local and comfortable. The furnishings aren’t fancy, but they’re thoughtful – you’ve got a proper kitchen where you can actually cook (not just a mini-fridge and microwave), decent Wi-Fi that doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and windows that let in genuine natural light, which is harder to find than you’d think in this part of the city. The whole vibe is sort of like staying at a friend’s place who has their life together but isn’t trying to show off. There’s a bodega literally around the corner where you can grab essentials, and you’re close to that stretch of Lexington Avenue with all the decent lunch spots that office workers frequent – which means good food that’s not marked up for tourists. Check-in was straightforward, no fancy lobby or concierge hovering around, just efficient and friendly. I actually appreciated not having to navigate some grand hotel production every time I came and went. If you’re looking for room service and daily housekeeping, this probably isn’t your spot, but if you want a genuine slice of New York living without the hassle of actually renting an apartment, it’s pretty perfect.

Very Good

Check in process was smooth. We were met by Elizabeth and was taken to the apartment.
The location is in a nice neighborhood with plenty of places to eat and grocery store within walking distance.
The unit is in level 4 and no lift. The apartment was clean with wooden floors, the floor area from behind the couch towards the bedroom was quite creaky and had gaps.
The middle bedroom with no window was very quiet. While the other two bedrooms with windows are not so- one had an outside view where you can hear the vehicles passing and one where you hear a constant humming sound coming from outside.
The washing machine and drier was very nice to have.
