Hilton Garden Inn New York/Manhattan-Chelsea Overview

I’ll be honest – when I first walked into the Hilton Garden Inn New York/Manhattan-Chelsea, I wasn’t expecting much from a three-star place in this neighborhood. But you know what? This hotel actually surprised me in the best way possible. The lobby has this clean, modern vibe that doesn’t try too hard, and the staff genuinely seemed happy to help rather than just going through the motions. What really caught my attention was how quiet it felt once you step inside – which is saying something when you’re literally steps away from the chaos of Herald Square and Penn Station.

The location is honestly pretty brilliant if you think about it. You’re on West 28th Street, which means you can walk to Madison Square Garden in about five minutes (I timed it), but you’re far enough from the tourist madness that you can actually breathe. The Chelsea Market is just a few blocks south, and I mean, if you haven’t wandered through there at least once, you’re missing out on some serious food action. The rooms themselves are what I’d call “sensibly sized” for New York – translation: not huge, but they’ve used the space smartly. The beds are actually comfortable, which matters more than you’d think after walking around the city all day, and there’s enough outlets that you won’t be crawling around on the floor trying to charge your phone.

What I really appreciated was the little gym on-site – nothing fancy, but it’s open 24/7 and has decent equipment if you need to work off all that pizza and bagel consumption. The front desk folks seem to actually know the neighborhood too, which is refreshing. When I asked about late-night food options, they pointed me toward this Korean place on 32nd Street that I never would’ve found otherwise. Look, it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury amenities or anything like that, but honestly? Sometimes you just want a clean, comfortable place to crash that doesn’t cost you a kidney and isn’t located next to construction that starts at 6 AM. The shower pressure is solid, the air conditioning actually works, and you can get to pretty much anywhere in Manhattan without too much subway drama. If you’re planning to spend most of your time exploring the city anyway, this place gives you exactly what you need without any unnecessary frills or inflated prices.

Early hotels booking in New York requires advance planning during peak seasons when visitors flock to enjoy the city’s Broadway shows, world-class shopping, and American cultural attractions.

Reviews of Hilton Garden Inn New York/Manhattan-Chelsea

  • Good location in NYC – Halim from Poland – September 10, 2025 (9/10)

    Location

What could be improved: The room was a bit small, and breakfast could definitely be improved. Additionally, the staff assisting during breakfast were quite forward—they placed a Post-it note on the check suggesting an 18–20% tip, which felt inappropriate.

  • Very Good – Tracey from United Kingdom – September 9, 2025 (8/10)

    Location
    Comfy bed
    Good air con

What could be improved: Long wait for the elevator each morning going to reception

  • Great location and great staff. – Noa from Israel – September 4, 2025 (7/10)

The staff was very nice and professional

What could be improved: Long waits for elevators. Was only able to refill water bottles in the fitness center in the basement and the basement elevators don’t indicate that you’ve pressed the button so along with the wait for the elevator it can be a bit unsettling

  • Perfect hotel in a very lively area. – Isil from Belgium – August 20, 2025 (9/10)

Perfect location with metro station at the beginning of the street. Times square, Broadway and main attractions are at walking distance. Very comfortable room and friendly staff.

What could be improved: Breakfast could be improved.

  • Terrific staff and comfortable room, but building is a bit tired and many things need fixing. – Peter from United States – August 20, 2025 (7/10)

Excellent staff, reasonable price for NYC. Room was clean.

What could be improved: Problems with TV, bathroom fixtures, electric outlets, elevator light and buttons.

  • Very Good – Barah from Saudi Arabia – August 19, 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: The street noise in the morning I couldn’t able to sleep.

  • Wonderful – Hayes from United States – July 28, 2025 (9/10)

The hotel was clean comfortable when walking in. I was offered something cold to drink. Very beautiful space. All their hotel employees were very nice.

What could be improved: The elevator The elevator was the worst thing about this hotel. It didn’t work correctly. It took a long time I had to use the stairs a lot.

  • We had a wonderful time at the hotel and in New York. I would recommend Hilton Garden Manhattan-Chelsea. It was a great – Rene from United Kingdom – July 28, 2025 (8/10)

The staff were wonderful, room was always clean and I enjoyed the continental breakfast.

The property was in an excellent location close to most of the tourist sites. Manhattan-Chelsea is a pretty area as there are loads of florists so lots of flowers line the pavements.

What could be improved: The lift broke down on one day of our visit. Walking down and up 15 flights of stairs was not great. It was great when it was fixed.

  • Very Good – Andrea from Colombia – July 21, 2025 (8/10)

    location, free coffee, clean

What could be improved: The breakfast didnt have eggs

  • A place to sleep and shower. – Alberina from Canada – July 16, 2025 (7/10)

    Location and price.

What could be improved: Place needs some paint.
