Lex Hotel NYC Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Lex Hotel NYC on Lexington Avenue, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a pretty standard midtown building. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries are the ones that surprise you, and this three-star spot turned out to be exactly what I needed during my stay in New York.
The thing about Kips Bay is that it’s one of those neighborhoods that feels authentically New York without the tourist circus – you’re walking distance from Gramercy Park (which, let’s face it, you can’t actually get into unless you have a key, but it’s nice to look at), and the whole area has this lived-in vibe that I really appreciate. The hotel itself sits right in the middle of all this, and while the lobby won’t blow you away with fancy marble or anything, there’s something refreshingly straightforward about the whole setup. The staff actually seems to know what they’re doing, which honestly can be hit or miss in this city. I mean, I’ve stayed at places twice the price where nobody could tell me how to work the shower.
What really won me over was how the rooms manage to feel bigger than they probably are – and trust me, in Manhattan, that’s no small feat. The windows actually open (revolutionary concept, right?), so you can get some real air flowing instead of just recycled hotel ventilation. Sure, you’ll hear some street noise, but it’s that kind of gentle urban hum that makes you feel like you’re really in the city, not trapped in some sterile bubble. The beds are surprisingly comfortable, and they’ve got this setup where you can actually control your own temperature without calling the front desk. Small things, but they matter when you’re dealing with jet lag or just trying to decompress after walking fifteen miles around the city. The whole place has this unpretentious efficiency that I’ve come to really value – no one’s trying to impress you with unnecessary amenities, but everything you actually need works properly. And honestly, when you’re paying New York hotel prices, having a place that delivers on the basics without any fuss feels like a genuine win.
