When I asked about good dinner spots that weren’t tourist traps, the front desk guy pointed me toward this Vietnamese place on 28th Street that I never would’ve found otherwise. The elevators are a bit slow, and you’ll definitely hear some street noise if you’re on the lower floors – West Street isn’t exactly a quiet residential lane. But there’s something oddly comforting about falling asleep to the distant hum of the city doing its thing. Plus, you’re close enough to the subway that getting around is easy, but far enough from the major tourist clusters that you can pretend you’re living like a real New Yorker for a few days. If you’re looking for a place that won’t blow your budget but puts you right in the middle of everything that makes this city worth visiting, this is honestly a solid choice.
