The Draper New York, Tapestry Collection by Hilton Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to The Draper New York, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, I wasn’t expecting much from the narrow building squeezed between other structures on West 37th Street. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in small packages, and this three-star spot really caught me off guard in the best way possible.
The location is actually pretty brilliant if you think about it. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Bryant Park (which, let’s face it, is one of New York’s hidden gems), and the subway situation is ridiculously convenient – Herald Square station is right there, plus you’ve got multiple lines within easy walking distance. I mean, Times Square is close enough that you can easily walk over for the obligatory tourist photos, but you’re far enough away that you won’t hear the Elmo costumes arguing at 2 AM. The whole Garment District vibe around here is pretty cool too – during the day you’ll see fashion industry folks rushing around with fabric samples, which gives the area this authentic New York energy that’s way more interesting than staying in some sterile midtown tower.
What really impressed me about The Draper was how they managed to create this boutique hotel feel without charging boutique hotel prices. The lobby has this warm, almost residential vibe – think rich woods and comfortable seating where you’d actually want to hang out rather than just rush through. The rooms are smaller than what you’d get in suburbia (this is Manhattan, after all), but they’re smartly designed with these great built-in storage solutions that actually work. The beds are surprisingly comfortable, and honestly, the blackout curtains are a godsend if you’re dealing with jet lag. One thing I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night – the building seems to buffer a lot of the street noise, which is pretty remarkable given that you’re in the heart of everything. The staff genuinely seems to know the neighborhood too, which makes a difference when you need restaurant recommendations that aren’t just the obvious tourist traps. I had the front desk guy tell me about this tiny Vietnamese place around the corner that I never would have found otherwise, and it ended up being one of the best meals of my trip. Sure, you’re not getting a rooftop pool or a fancy spa here, but sometimes you just want a really solid, well-located place to sleep between adventures – and The Draper absolutely delivers on that front.

The location & staff was great!
What could be improved: We stayed in a double room. The beds were small and mattrass was too soft and had a dip in it. Felt like sleeping in a hole..Good value, but they should make sure everything in the room works. – Jennifer from United States – March 23, 2025 (7/10)
The location is great! Bed was comfortable. Shower was nice with a good water pressure.
Our toilet wouldn’t flush, and when we attempted to call the front desk, the phone in the room didn’t work. My husband had to go down to the front desk and ask for assistance. I had attempted to texted them (they send you a text at check-in, saying you can text them for assistance) prior to my husband going to the front desk, and they didn’t respond until the middle of the night. 2:44 AM!!!
What could be improved: Being woken up at 2:44 AM!Overall, it’s a great place to stay! – Julia from United States – March 3, 2025 (9/10)
