Overview

You know what caught me off guard about The Wall Street Inn? I was expecting some sterile business hotel, but this place actually has character – which is saying something for a three-star property right in the thick of the Financial District. The building itself sits on South William Street, and I mean, you’re literally walking distance from the NYSE and Trinity Church, but somehow it doesn’t feel like you’re staying in a tourist trap.

The rooms are honestly smaller than what you’d get in Midtown, but they’re thoughtfully laid out in that classic New York way where every square foot counts. The staff here – and I can’t stress this enough – actually knows the neighborhood. When I asked about grabbing coffee that wasn’t Starbucks, the front desk guy immediately pointed me toward Birch Coffee just around the corner on Maiden Lane. That’s the kind of local intel you don’t get at the big chains. The walls are surprisingly thick for an older building, so street noise wasn’t really an issue, though you’ll definitely hear the occasional siren – it’s downtown Manhattan, after all.

What really sold me on this place was how it handles the whole Wall Street location thing. During weekdays, you’re surrounded by the energy of traders and bankers rushing around, but come evening and weekends, the area gets surprisingly peaceful. Stone Street’s cobblestones are right there for those Instagram shots, and honestly, being able to walk to the South Street Seaport or catch the Staten Island Ferry without dealing with subway transfers is pretty sweet. The breakfast situation is basic but decent – nothing fancy, just what you need before diving into the city. I actually ended up extending my stay because, well, where else can you get this kind of authentic Financial District experience without breaking the bank? Sure, it’s not luxury, but it’s real New York in a way that a lot of hotels just aren’t anymore.

Best hotels in New York range from luxurious Manhattan penthouses with Central Park views to boutique hotels in trendy Brooklyn neighborhoods and classic midtown properties near Broadway theaters.

Clean rooms, friendly staff.

Very clean and the staff were all friendly and welcoming.

What could be improved: The door to the room wasn’t very soundproof and I could hear everyone walking around in the hallway and the elevator.

Very nice overall, my son and I liked it very much and would return.

Great location. Well appointed and clean. Beds were very comfortable. Appreciated the breakfast although I had limited options due to an allergy.

What could be improved: A perhaps small point, but the main breakfast area is quite small; the overflow space is significantly away from the food buffet, and was also being used for storage of non-food things. If they could run it more efficiently that way, it would be better.
